Migrate to Australia? Check the new 2016-17 Skilled Occupations List (SOL)

The Australian federal government has released its updated Skilled Occupation List (SOL) for the year 2016-17, which will come into effect on July 1, 2016.

As with previous years, some of the roles have been trimmed and others have been added after the review of the skilled occupations list to meet the country’s needs in the coming year. The good news is that Accountants, IT, and most of the Engineering occupations remain on the new SOL (2016-17) list.

Occupations Removed from the SOL

A total of 9 occupations were removed from the Skilled Occupation List as follows:

  • Mining Engineers ANZSCO 233611
  • Petroleum Engineers ANZSCO 233612
  • Metallurgist ANZSCO 234912
  • Environmental Health Officer ANZSCO 251311
  • Occupational Health and Safety Advisor ANZSCO 251312
  • Dental Hygienist ANZSCO 411211
  • Dental Prosthetist ANZSCO 411212
  • Dental Technician ANZSCO 411213
  • Dental Therapist ANZSCO 411214

Occupations Added to the SOL

The following occupations have been added to the Skilled Occupation list:

  • Orthotists and Prosthetists ANZSCO 251912
  • Audiologists ANZSCO 252711

 

The Skilled Occupations List is used for the following visa applications:

  • 189 (Skilled Independent Visa);
  • 489 (Skilled Regional Provisional Visa); and
  • 485 (Graduate Temporary Visa)

The Department of Immigration and Border Protection (DIBP) have also released the Consolidated Sponsored Occupations List (CSOL) which is used for 190 (Skilled Nominated Visa), 457 (Temporary Work Skilled Visa) and 186 (Employer Nominated Scheme) visa applications. There is no change to the Consolidated Sponsored Occupations List (CSOL).
